Introduction
This Database of VOC Documents intends to contain the descriptions of all individual documents of the Dutch East India Company (VOC, 1602-1795) all over the world.
The description of the millions of VOC documents will take many years.
Up till now, this database contains about 100,000 descriptions of the records sent from the VOC establishments in Asia and South Africa to the Board of Directors of the VOC in the Netherlands. These incoming documents from Asia, called Overgekomen Brieven en Paperen (OBP), comprise the most frequently studied series of the National Archives of the Netherlands.
The search options of the database are:
- Search on reference code for documents in a specific volume
- Search for documents created by a specific VOC establishment
- Search for documents containing a specific geographical name
- Reconstruction of the administration of a VOC establishment
- Search on every word you like (free search)
Additionally, you can save your research results in your personal workfolder. These results can be downloaded and printed.
